Healthy Food

As a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider I am qualified to discuss how food intake may be affecting your mental health. In session, a client will be given an extensive food/ mood diary to complete over at least 7 days. Once completed, we will map out a plan to help balance the food you put in your body along with the life issues that are affecting you. When we do not give our body the adequate fuel it needs it will let us know, we must pay attention. Whether it is depression, anxiety, or insomnia, to name just a few, could be caused by an insufficient diet. Medication prescribed by a doctor for one of these 3 issues can be beneficial, but what if you could bring your brain into optimal functioning by adding or deleting certain foods. It does take work and a lot of body awareness, but as the saying goes, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." Apples are a powerful antioxidant which provides 1500 milligrams of Vitamin C.  Too much vitamin C can have an adverse affect, therefore we need to be balanced. When we are aware of our body and how it functions best, we make better decisions on the food we eat. When we gain control in an area of his or her life, the ability to reduce emotion reactivity and maintain stability is a greater possibility.

Therapy should be a well rounded treatment, not just mental but physical as well. When we only focus on one area, we may be miss the cure. Food affects your entire body, just like emotions. When a client presents with anxiety, a foot may shake, or hands may be wrung during our session. If a client presents with insomnia, questions are slower to be answered, memory recall is delayed. Depression, may sound like hopelessness and sluggish body movements. What is in the mind is just as important as what is in the gut, so why only explore one area? All parts of our body working together for the best overall outcome is the best type of treatment.
